WHO IS RABBIT RESCUE?
The people behind the Rabbits
|
Haviva Lush
Executive Director |
Haviva
has always had a passion for animals; she has been a vegetarian
for over 27 years and more recently has become a vegan.
Growing up, she was constantly involved in both animal rights and
environmental issues; attending and organizing protests, raising
awareness, rescuing animals and spending her time volunteering
with a variety of animal charities.
She has a specialized honors degree in Environmental Science and
is honored to have worked for some of her favorite charities
including, WSPA, Animal Alliance, Earth Day Canada, Toronto
Wildlife Centre and Earth Rangers.
Haviva
founded Rabbit Rescue after falling in love with Marbles, her
first rabbit, and realizing the huge lack of resources available
for domestic rabbits. While many rabbit rescues could be found
in other parts of the world, there were none in Canada! So,
with extreme determination and hard work, she would not let
anything stand in her way of establishing Rabbit Rescue
Inc! In 2001, she quit her job (environmental education/
wildlife rehabilitation) to run the Rescue full time. Starting
small, she incorporated the organization and obtained charitable
status on her own. Haviva has a knack for
bringing good people together, and volunteers quickly followed
suit to make Rabbit Rescue what it is today. Rabbit Rescue Inc.
was the first rabbit charity in Ontario, and is the largest
rabbit rescue in Canada.
On the
rare moments where Haviva isn’t scrambling to find an emergency
foster home, assisting with surgery, helping the shelters, building
the website, organizing a fundraiser, or answering medical
questions, she
can be found snuggling with her bunnies, spending time with her friends,
or cruising on a motorcycle with her wonderful husband, John.

Marbles |
Marbles; The bunny that started
it all!
Chief rabbit
Marbles, is taste tester of all treats, bunny nibbler of
branches, and all products must get his paws up of approval
before going up for sale on our site. Marbles enjoys snuggling
with Cinnabun and Kate, and waking
Haviva up at 5am to playing under the covers of her bed! He is a
very special rabbit, and the reason that Rabbit Rescue exists
today! Three cheers for Marbles who recently celebrated
his 8th birthday!

Rosalind Glousher
Adoption & Foster
Manager |
We first
met Rosalind when she applied to become a foster parent. She
too enjoys the ‘special needs’ rabbits and always has wonderful
stories to share about her own bunnies. Rosalind handles
many of our telephone inquiries, organize rescues and helps process adoption applications.
She works hard to find the rabbits
that are just right for you! |
Amy Daniels, Alana Parsons, Rachel Mercer
Adoption Coordinators |
Amy, Alana and Rachel have
been dedicated volunteers with Rabbit Rescue for many years
now. They spend countless hours of their own time
finding the right rabbit for the right person, answering
rabbit care questions and assisting any way they can!
These three incredible woman make up our adoption team and
deserve huge recognition for all they do! |
Michelle Wasyluk
& Norm Zenglein
Media Managers |
Michelle and Norm
love spreading the word about Rabbit Rescue. Whether it's
through silent auctions, fundraisers, yard sales or media
exposure, they are committed to expounding the virtues of
their favorite organization. From coming up with ideas,
putting them into motion and promoting the image and
integrity of RR, Michelle and Norm love to work their tails
off for the bunns who need it the most. Michelle is
also the mastermind behind our very successful BUNFEST. |
Erin Engler
Merchandise Manager |
Erin is owned by
her bunnies Reese and her latest addition, Dongo who was
adopted through Rabbit Rescue. She now runs the Rabbit Rescue
store located in Milton;
www.rabbitrescue.ca/store
Not only does she package up all of the goodies that people
order for themselves and their bunnies, but she can help you
decide what to order for your bunny! |
Michelle Evans
Webmaster & I.T.
Manager |
Michelle, and her husband Jim can always be found helping
out. Not only are they great foster parents, and help
with our chocolate fundraisers, but Michelle, always comes
to our rescue if we have technical problems. She built our online store,
she maintains, updates and adds new applications to the
website like our auctions and subscriber mailing list, and
she sets up and formats our
newsletter. We don't know how she does it, but she
always fixes our problems!

Fosters, Drivers and
More! |
Rabbit Rescue
would not be what it is today without the help of all of our
wonderful foster parents who work very hard in socializing
their foster animals and providing a loving environment for
them to feel safe and secure.
A big thanks as
well to our volunteer drivers who pick up animals at
shelters and deliver them to our vet clinic, and then on to
their new foster homes!
Special
people deserve special recognition. Huge thanks to:
Our wonderful
board of directors, Liz Beecker, John Brajkovich, Susan
Brown, Michelle Wasyluk.
Pat
Liskauskas who produces our stickers, and signs &
banners!
